Debut economy surges in Xiamen

The Fujian Wholesale and Retail Industry Association last month released the list of 100 companies that opened their first stores in the province over the past two years. Xiamen accounted for 71 of the debuting stores. 

The openings are part of what has been dubbed the debut economy, which refers to any of several economic firsts that companies can take. The debut economy includes items such as new product or service unveilings, debut exhibitions, first physical stores, the establishment of new research facilities or the debut of a company headquarters. 

City representatives said that local commercial districts have seen a surge of first-store openings and new international brand debuts. They added that the debuts bring dynamism to Xiamen's commercial landscape and vitalize the city's economy. 

Xiamen has introduced in recent years multiple policies to support the development of the first-store economy. It has piloted funding rewards and support for introducing first stores of domestic and international renowned brands, optimized the business environment and enhanced commercial infrastructure to create a favorable development atmosphere.
