On the morning of January 20th, Xiamen, Southeast China's Fujian Province, hosted its inaugural exchange and matchmaking conference for foreign talent to encourage bidirectional communications between Chinese employers and foreign talent. The event attracted over 100 expats from more than 40 countries including Germany, Australia and the United States.
With the focus on high-quality positions offering competitive salaries, the conference saw over 20 employers present their recruitment needs in sectors including electronic information, commerce and logistics, as well as in social sectors, such as universities, research institutes and international education.
Urgently needed positions like algorithm engineers, material engineers and overseas marketing directors were highlighted, with some roles offering salaries as high as 1.5 million yuan (205,000 USD) per year.
The Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security revealed that 45 employers, including private, State-owned and foreign enterprises and academic institutions, collectively offered 65 positions for foreign talent, with a demand for nearly 170 individuals.
Apart from the initial on-site matchmaking, all positions will be advertised on online platforms including the websites xmgjhrc2024.zhaopin.com, xmrc.com.cn and on the iHaigui mobile platform.
Except positions matching, the bureau also unveiled a comprehensive package of policies for the introduction and service of foreign talent in Xiamen. It outlined favorable measures in areas like immigration, residence permits, innovation and entrepreneurship support, and service, providing clear guidance for foreign talent seeking jobs, entrepreneurship and living in the city.
The event's organizers also invited foreign talent to experience the festive tradition of Chinese New Year, such as calligraphy, incense art, Chinese knotting, lacquer fans and more, allowing them to fully appreciate the charms of traditional Chinese culture.
Overall, Xiamen has been vigorously implementing a tech-led innovation initiative. It has been accelerating an international talent recruitment drive, upgrading 12 policies and measures for talent support, reforming and optimizing the entire chain of talent recruitment, nurturing, utilizing and retaining, and fostering a first-rate innovation and entrepreneurship talent support system.
In 2024, the city recruited 3,566 international people, representing a 17.8% year-on-year increase.
